Public Policy Committee Role

Goals:

Build leadership around philanthropic issues and opportunities.

Promote philanthropy throughout the region

The Grantmakers Forum of New York Public Policy Committee exists to help grantmakers advance their missions and leverage their resources by supporting public policy efforts. The key principle guiding the Committee’s work is that grantmakers and the nonprofit sector play a critical role in society and the welfare of its members, and should have an influential voice in public policy. Society is stronger when everyone participates in the public policy process, and grantmakers can play a role in ensuring participation.

   PrimaryTasks:

Educate the philanthropic community regarding the value, feasibility, and limits of engagement in the public policy decision-making process, including education regarding best practices in policy-related grantmaking.

Educate policymakers and regulators regarding the value and role of philanthropy in the economic and social well-being of their communities.

Build leadership and collaboration on public policy issues among grantmakers, NGOs, and other organizations with government.

Conduct research that supports the effectiveness of philanthropy in affecting public policy.
