   Who Can Join?

Full Membership
The following types of funders are eligible to become members of the Grantmakers Forum, provided that they support more than one nonprofit organization or collaborative in New York State each year:

  • Private foundations (family and independent)
  • Corporations (business giving programs and corporate foundations);
  • Community foundations;
  • Public charity grantmakers and service organizations (United Way, arts councils, Junior League, religious organizations);
  • Families or individual donors distributing $5,000 or more each year.

Associate Membership
Advisors: Individuals and organizations providing legal and financial professional assistance to grantmakers in New York State.Includes the rights and privileges of full members, except to vote on Grantmakers Forum matters or hold office on the board.

 

    

   Membership Dues

Annual dues for full members are based on grants and philanthropic expenditures (operating projects) made in New York State during your most recently completed fiscal year. Dues are payable at the beginning of the Grantmakers Forum of New York fiscal year, June 1st. Use the following schedule to determine annual membership dues.

Make a grant to cover your membership with the Grantmakers Forum.  Any amount over $400 may be reported to the IRS as a charitable contribution or grant rather than an administrative expense.

NOTE:  Organizations more than 150 miles from Rochester, NY may deduct 25% from their assessment.  Community Foundations and other public charity grantmakers may exempt one-time pass through and scholarship funds from their support calculation.

*In accordance with IRS regulations, any dues amount above the minimum of $400 may be reported as a grant or charitable distribution rather than an administrative expense.

**Individuals and organizations providing legal and financial professional assistance to individuals of wealth and philanthropic organizations in New York State.

***Government agencies distributing public monies to 501(c)(3) organizations.  Government members may not hold office or vote on Grantmakers Forum matters.
