PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Overall coordination, execution and management of Food Bank grant acquisition program including all government, corporate & foundation grants on a local, statewide and national scale. Responsibilities include research, writing, stewardship and cultivation of grants and granting organizations. The Grants Manager works closely with the Executive Director and other Food Bank management staff to identify and match grant opportunities to annual Food Bank program and general operations needs.
SPECIFIC DUTIES:
1. Develop and manage, with Executive Director and Food Bank department leadership, annual grants schedule to include program specific and general operating grant opportunities. This includes development of projected number of grant submissions to ensure successful revenue generation through annual grants (in dollars).
2. Maintain on-going relationships with Food Bank department leaders in identifying specific revenue program needs. Coordinate with Executive Director and department leadership, execution of contingency plans related to unsuccessful grant applications that continue to meet program specific and general operating needs.
3. Research appropriate grant opportunities, using various data referral and information technologies, to develop grant applications in a timely and efficient manner consistent with granting organization guidelines and requirements.
4. Work with development department and other departments to identify “Grant related” development opportunities including matching gift programs, cause-related marketing opportunities and other “leveraging” opportunities.
5. Work with Executive Director, Board of Directors and Development Department in identifying and executing grant opportunities related to capital campaigns, capital equipment and facility needs, planned giving and other “high-end/large award” revenue needs that require a grant application or matching grant process.
6. Develop written correspondence in a timely manner consistent with funding organization guidelines (i.e. acceptance letters, etc.) and coordinate announcements of grant awards through press releases, press conferences, and events in coordination with Executive Director and other department leaders.
7. Develop and maintain grant file and management system (hard copy and computerized) to ensure accurate management of grant submissions, awards and donor relations. This includes applications, award letters, general correspondence and all cultivation and stewardship activities.
8. Develop and maintain on-going relationships with granting organizations including updates on Food Bank events, activities, press releases (related to grant), invitations to Food Bank events and overall relationship building correspondence. Maintain regular correspondence to identify grantor guideline changes and shifts in giving. Conduct inquiries into unsuccessful grant applications and make necessary adjustments to future grant applications.
9. Identify appropriate professional development opportunities to maintain professional standards and on-going educational opportunities including periodicals, newspapers and other printed materials.
10. Maintain on-going knowledge and understanding of the Food Bank industry on a national, statewide and local scale. Develop understanding of local hunger needs and member agency network (Food Bank member agencies) that serves people in need on the front lines.

DIRECT
SUPERVISOR: Food Bank Executive Director
EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree in
Marketing, Public Relations, Business Administration, Nonprofit Management,
English, Journalism, Corporate Communications or related field/experience
required.
EXPERIENCE: 3-4 years minimum experience
in grant writing, direct mail and/or development required. Experience with
developing and maintaining relationships with funding organizations. Has proven
track record of annual grant acquisition of $100,000 + annually. Knowledge of
grant-writing standards and ethics.
