Programs 2004-2005 Funders
Collaboratives: Strategic Philanthropy Funders often are concerned that they alone can't address the critical issues facing their communities. How can their limited resources make a difference? How can small foundations have an impact on big problems? This presentation will discuss how funder collaboratives can be a successful method for reaching philanthropic goals. Cassie Schwerner and Fred Frelow will talk about the Donors Education Collaborative (DEC), why it started, their strategy is to address public policy issues in education, and how together they are helping organizations working to improve education in New York. Karen Scharff will speak briefly about two DEC grantees: the Campaign for Fiscal Equity court decision that will change the school aid funding formula across the state; and the Alliance For Quality Education, a diverse roganization in Albany working to make a significant and positive commitment to our children.
