Celebrate

National Philanthropy Day

November 15, 2003

National Philanthropy Day is an annual event initiated by the Association of Fundraising Professionals — “to recognize the great contributions of philanthropy -- and those people active in the philanthropic community -- to the enrichment of our world. National Philanthropy Day provides an opportunity to reflect on the meaning of giving and all that it has made possible.”

This year’s theme is “Change the World with a Giving Heart.”  Read about it at:

http://www.nationalphilanthropyday.org/

Many grantmaking organizations — and the programs they fund — will want to schedule some special event to recognize the generosity of individuals and organizations and the good work accomplished.  Rochester Grantmakers Forum is an underwriter of the National Philanthropy Day luncheon, sponsored by the AFP Genesee Valley Chapter and Rochester Area Community Foundation, to be held November 18 at the Hyatt in Rochester.

This luncheon honors individuals and organizations who have made an outstanding philanthropic contribution to the community.

Here are some suggestions to honor philanthropy in your area:

·      Host a luncheon to honor nonprofits and funders together, for their generous giving to the community.

·      Award Outstanding Philanthropic Achievements—for kids, as well as adults.

·      Organize a poster contest at school around a philanthropic topic.

·      Share local giving data with the local media, to   show how openhearted your community is.

·      Write an article for the media.

·      Make a video on Philanthropy.

·      Hold a Community Care event, such as a clean-up, etc.

(NOTE: The NPD logo (above) is permanently established and AFP has a goal of consistent branding, to promote a greater awareness of philanthropy).

AFP has provided a logo in various formats to be used for your events/newsletters/awards.
