Foundations on the Hill On February 4, 2004, gather in the nation's capital with
your colleagues from foundations around the country for the second annual
Foundations on the Hill. Sponsored by
the Council on Foundations and Forum of Regional Associations of Grantmakers,
this is an opportunity to inform members of Congress about how
foundations and grantmakers make a difference in the everyday lives of their
constituents. The Funders
Alliance, through Rochester Grantmakers Forum, will be participating in
Foundations on the Hill on February 4, 2004. Our delegation will target meetings with: l
Senator Hillary
Rodham Clinton l
Senator Charles
Schumer l
Rep. Amo Houghton
(R-Dist. 29 – Ontario, Yates & Western So Tier) House Ways and Means l
Rep. John McHugh

Rep. Maurice
Hinchey (R-Dist.22 – Hudson River Valley west to Ithaca) We will ask
all our
congressional representatives for 10 minutes to speak about the Funders
Alliance as a resource for education about philanthropic issues. The Council on Foundations will help
us schedule meetings with our legislators in the morning and afternoon. Our delegation will meet with as many
legislators as possible on February 4.
We will provide talking points and a summary sheet to enable all
participants to speak effectively with legislators. In addition
to notifying the Funders Alliance of your participation, you must register
for the formal event which includes an evening briefing on Feb. 3rd,
continental breakfast and a delegates lunch with a speaker. The cost is $45. To register or for more information,
go to www.foundationsonthehill.org. Forum of Regional Associations of
Grantmakers
Foundations on the Hill coincides with the Forum of Regional
Associations of Grantmakers annual meeting Feb. 5-6. Members of the Funders Alliance are
also welcome to attend that meeting for first hand experience of how regional
associations from around the U.S. interact to meet the needs of their members
and to keep current on philanthropic trends. Jennifer Leonard, President & CEO of the Rochester
Area Community Foundation and a member of the Funders Alliance governance
team serves on the board of the Forum of Regional Associations of
Grantmakers. The annual
meeting, The Established, The New, The
Potential: Advancing Philanthropy Region by Region, will be held
at the Academy for Educational Development at Dupont Circle. The Forum has reserved blocks of
rooms at several neighboring hotels.
