What was the Funders Alliance
of Upstate New York?

The Funders Alliance of Upstate New York was a regional project to unite grantmakers from all parts of Upstate New York – from the Mid-Hudson area and the Southern Tier to the North Country and Western New York. The over 160 members included family and private foundations, corporations, community foundations, other community-based funders like United Way, and the region’s local regional associations of grantmakers and their members: Grantmakers Alliance of Northeastern New York, Rochester Grantmakers Forum and Western New York Grantmakers Association. The Funders Alliance was formed in 2000 by 28 representatives of grantmakers from Albany, Binghamton, Buffalo, Chautauqua, Corning, Elmira, Ithaca, Rochester, Syracuse and Utica.

In 2005 Rochester Grantmakers Forum united with some members of the Funders Alliance to form the Grantmakers Forum of New York. Western New York Grantmakers Association remains autonomous. The Grantmakers Alliance of Northeastern New York discontinued its operation in 2007.
